COLOMBO (News 1st); The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) says that a ship carrying stocks of gas, which was brought to the Colombo Port, was refused.

Its Chairman, retired Maj. Gen. Shantha Dissanayake, said the move was prompted by tests which found that the composition of the gas leak detecting odorant, Mercaptan was not up to standard.

Accordingly, the release of the relevant stock of gas to the public has been suspended, he added.

Previously, the Committee appointed by the President presented several recommendations for the standardization of gas cylinders, which also included for the mandatory presence of Mercaptan within cylinders.
