COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Geetha Kumarasinghe said yesterday (02) that gas companies should be held accountable for any injuries or deaths caused due to gas explosions.
Speaking further, the MP stated that she too had a horrific experiences with gas related accidents.
Commenting on the incidents related to gas explosions in various places in the recent past, she said that it is the responsibility of the government to reveal to the country the truth of these incidents.
"Why am I talking like this today? In 2017 a gas cylinder leaked and the pantry in my house, and half of the whole house, was wrecked, and my life was in big danger, I was someone who was horrified due to these situations. I know the danger because I too have experienced this. ” she said.
The MP stressed that the people could not live in fear and emphasized that the relevant gas companies must be held accountable if anyone was injured or killed in the incidents related to the gas explosions.
MP Kumarasinghe added that although a committee has been set up for the purpose, actions must be taken soon with regard to these explosions, and if there is a problem with the gas cylinders, gas companies should recall the cylinders, and provide consumers with new cylinders.
