COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa on Tuesday (30) requested the parliament to call for a Criminal Investigation into the incidents of exploding gas cylinders, reported from across the country.
He requested that the CID conduct a Criminal Investigation and bring the perpetrators before the law.
The Opposition Leader told the Parliament that following the reports of gas explosions from several parts of the country, there is a fear among the people who use gas daily, domestically.
Premadasa listing out a number of places where such incidents had taken place, noted that these incidents are unusual while 11 incidents were reported within the past 48 days.
These events started after the government introduced the 18-liter hybrid gas cylinder for domestic use, he said adding this was a ploy by the state the deceive the people and make massive profits fraudulently.
Sajith Premadasa that one of the key issues in the aforementioned matter was that the gas composition was changed and the weight was reduced, while the other major issue was that the Propane and Butane percentages in the gas cylinders were changed to a level that do not meet the Sri Lankan climate.
