Further inspections due at Kadugannawa landslide-prone area today

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Disaster Management Center (DMC) says that further inspections will be carried out today at the landslide-prone area in lower Kadugannawa along the Colombo - Kandy Main Road. Kegalle District Assistant Director of the DMC, Anushka Chamila said that representatives of several institutions, including the National Building Research Organization are conducting the inspections. He further stated that a decision on whether or not to open the Colombo - Kandy Main Road from lower Kadugannawa area, will be made following the inspections today. Meanwhile, Kegalle District Secretary Mahinda S. Weerasuriya said that around 30 shops in the lower Kadugannawa area have been removed and the people have been evacuated. The Colombo - Kandy main road was closed at Lower Kadugannawa on Wednesday night, due to the risk of landslides.
