COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) on Monday (Nov. 1) issued Landslide Early Warnings to EIGHT districts due to the prevailing showery conditions over the country.
The warning is in effect for several Divisional Secretariats in the districts of Badulla, Kegalle, Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Kalutara, and Galle.
The DS divisions where the Landslide Warning is in effect are:
In the Badulla District: Ella DS division
In the Kegalle District: Mawanella, Aranayaka, and Bulathkohupitiya DS divisions
In the Kandy District: Yatinuwara, Ganga Ihala Korale, Harispattuwa, and Gangawata Korale DS divisions
In the Matale District: Rattota DS division
In the Nuwara Eliya District: Walapane and Nuwara Eliya DS divisions
In the Ratnapura District: Weligepola, Eheliyagoda, Ratnapura, Kalawana, Kahawaththa and Imbulpe DS divisions
In the Kalutara District: Bulathsinhala DS division
In the Galle District: Neluwa, Nagoda and Elpitiya DS divisions.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology predicted heavy showers exceeding 100 mm could be expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, Central, and North-central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
The Met Department says the low-pressure area still persists in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.
The general public has been requested to take precautions.
