Registrars to be awarded Justice of Peace title

COLOMBO (News 1st); Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils, and Local Government to take steps to award the post of Justice of the Peace while granting public servants the post of Registrar. The decision was reached at a discussion held at Temple Trees yesterday (26) with the members of the Association of Registrars of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, where the issues faced by the Registrars were discussed. Accordingly, the Prime Minister instructed to carry out these activities in consultation with the Ministry of Justice. Moreover, the Prime Minister instructed for the allowance granted to Registrars to be increased via the upcoming budget and to implement an insurance scheme for Registrars as well.
