COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka secured a comfortable 7 wicket win against Namibia in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup on Monday (18).
After winning the toss and deciding to invite Namibia to bat first, Maheesh Theekshana struck with the first ball of his spell and dismiss Stephan Baard for 7, and then Theekshana struck twice within the Powerplay to take the wicket of Zane Green.
The wickets kept tumbling thereafter, as the Sri Lankan bowlers made great use of the conditions on offer to restrict Namibia to 96.
Sri Lanka got off to a slow start losing two wickets in quick successions.
Kusal Perera failed to read the slower ball from Ruben Trumpelmann and only found JJ Smit at mid-on who takes a good diving catch to his right.
Bernard Scholtz then trapped Pathum Nissanka leg before wicket.
Chandimal fell next off a JJ Smit delivery only to find Zane Green, and walked back to the pavilion for 5.
Avishka Fernando and Bhanuka Rajapaksa then powered Sri Lanka to victory to close on 100/3 in 13.3 overs.
