COLOMBO (News 1st); The five-member special investigations committee that was appointed to probe the #DataScam, in its interim report revealed that series of malpractices had taken place within the National Medicines Regulatory Authority.
The report was handed over to Professor Channa Jayasumana, the State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals on Tuesday (12).
A five member Committee headed by Retired Supreme Court Judge Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena was appointed to inquire into the activities of the National Drug Regulatory Authority (NMRA) during the July 1, 2015 and March 17, 2021.
Professor Channa Jayasumana said the report recommended a series of changes to the NMRA in order to makes operations more successful, and that it reveals of wide-spread fraud and corruption within the NMRA.
"The committee also proposed for the immediately amendment to the NMRA legislation," he said.
The report will be tabled in parliament and will be released to the media to be made available to the public, he said.
