Mattakkuliya Army Camp CO arrested & remanded for murder

COLOMBO (News 1st); Lieutenant Colonel Samantha Thilakaratne of the Army who is the Commanding Officer of the Mattakkuliya Army Camp, was arrested for murder and remanded until Friday (1).

He was arrested over the murder of the husband of a Grama Niladhari Officer in Mattakkuliya and was produced to the Colombo Additional Magistrate.

The Mattakkuliya Police told the court that information has come to light that the Lt. Colonel had orchestrated the murder.

13 soldiers from the Mattakkuliya Army Camp were also arrested and they are currently in remand custody.

The victim of the murder was 36-year-old Akila Sampath Ratnasiri, who was also the leader of a sports team in Thotalanga, Colombo 14.

The victim was abducted in an SUV belonging to the Mattakuliya Army Camp and his body was found on the 20th of September on the shores of Crow Island.

Police said he was abducted, strangled and they dumped into the Kelani River from the Sedawatte Bridge.

Police investigations revealed that an affair his wife had, was the motive for the murder.

The Grama Niladhari Officer was also arrested and remanded.
