COLOMBO (News 1st): Children in the age group of 12 to 19-years, with special needs and congenital disorders were administered the COVID-19 vaccine today (25), at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital in Colombo and the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
Around 50 children had registered with the Lady Ridgeway Hospital to obtain the vaccine today.
The vaccine was also administered to children with clinical records, who had not registered with the hospital.
Deputy Director at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital, Dr. Santhushitha Senapathi said no cases of complications have been reported as of yet.
"There is a limited number of vaccines that will be given. It takes more time than usual to vaccinate them. It takes about 5 to 6 minutes. Yesterday, we were able to vaccinate about 180 children. All of them had some illness." He said.
Children with congenital disorders above the age of 12 years are being administered the Pfizer vaccine and the second dose will be administered 04 weeks after the first dose.
