Customs seizes 4,200 oximeters imported without proper approvals

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Customs seized 4,200 Oximeters that were to be smuggled into the country, using forged documents.

Sri Lanka Customs said that its personnel averted an attempt to smuggle in a stock of oximeters through the air cargo terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake on 6th September 2021.

A person appearing as a clearing agent has obtained the release of the shipment of oximeters by submitting a forged document to the officers of Srilankan Cargo.

The officers of the Customs Preventive Division intercepted the shipment at the exit point and found that it was being removed without submitting the Customs Declaration and the approval of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority and payment of applicable taxes to Sri Lanka Customs.

During the examination, a stock of 4200 oximeters packed in 21 boxes have been found.

The value of the shipment has been determined as Rs. 2,344,642/=.

The suspect was produced before Negombo Magistrate on 7th September 2021, and was remanded till 21st September 2021.

The officers of the Sri Customs Preventive Division at Katunayake are conducting further investigations.
