Another expert resigns from COVID Technical Committee

COLOMBO (News 1st); Dr. Asoka Gunaratne, Consultant Anaesthetist, and a member of the Intercollegiate Technical Committee of the Director-General of Health Services stepped down from the Committee.

Earlier, Senior Consultant Physician attached to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH), Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama resigned from the Intercollegiate Technical Committee of the Director-General of Health Services, noting that decisions taken by the said committee are not the decisions that were being implemented.

According to sources, key decisions related to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, which were supposed to be taken by the Intercollegiate Technical Committee, have been taken by unofficial committees on several occasions and the Intercollegiate Technical Committee had not convened in recent times.

Sources further, added that one medical body that was a part of this committee had stepped away during the second COVID-19 wave in Sri Lanka.
