COLOMBO (News 1st): 80% of the over 18 population in Sri Lanka were given the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, said Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, Chairman of the State Pharmaceutical Corporation on Wednesday (01), while noting that 52% of them are fully vaccinated. "If we vaccinate about 62% to 63% of the population over 18 in the remaining weeks, we can complete the vaccination. Full immunization is expected to take another two weeks. By mid-October, the current pandemic come to a controllable position and people will be able to lead a normal life." He said. Dr. Gunasena mentioned that the registration process was delayed due to the social pressure on the technical committees that evaluated the vaccines. He added that everyone should have been vaccinated by June if the vaccination registration process wasn't delayed. "We cannot bring back the dead. The negative attitudes, misinformation and distrust of the system has made people lose confidence in the vaccine," he added. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTEhvwsHJz4
