Nurse & Doctor latest COVID-19 victims

COLOMBO (News 1st); Health trade unions claim that 07 health workers have died of COVID-19 while scores have been infected.

On Friday (20), a female nurse attached to the Radawana Hospital died of COVID-19 while being treated at the Colombo National Hospital.

Ashoka Malkanthi, was a mother of three.

'She was a nurse who cared for all patients. Her demise is a great loss,' said one hospital worker.

A Doctor attached to the Colombo North Teaching Hospital also succumbed to COVID-19 on Thursday (19).

The father of three passed away while being treated at the ICU of the Colombo North Teaching Hospital.

The Deputy Director-General of Public Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath told reporters that 03 doctors, 01 nurse, and 02 minor staff have died of COVID-19.

However, trade unions claim that 02 Doctors, 03 nurses, and 02 minor staff had died of COVID-19.

The country as a whole must appreciate the great service rendered by the health sector who continue to care for patients and provide treatment, well aware of the risks posed by COVID-19.
