Weddings prohibited from midnight today (17)

COLOMBO (News 1st): Weddings are prohibited from taking place in homes or function halls from midnight today (17), until further notice.

The Army Commander General Shavendra Silva previously announced that this decision has been taken as a measure to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

However, the Police later clarified that there is no barrier to registering a marriage.

Accordingly, a marriage can be registered with the presence of the bride and groom, both parents, the registrar and two witnesses may attend the occasion, which may be held at the registrar's office or at home.
