Demand for blood on the rise with COVID-19

COLOMBO (News 1st): The blood supply at the National Blood Transfusion Center has reduced due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Director of the Blood Transfusion Center, 

Dr. Lakshman Edirisinghe says.

Dr. Edirisinghe further stated that at present, there is a daily requirement for 950 - 1000 units of blood.

Therefore, the Blood Transfusion Center has requested for blood donors to donate blood as it is difficult to obtain that amount on a daily basis.

Dr. Edirisinghe said that it is possible to make an appointment at 011-5 332 153 or 011-5 332 154 to visit any blood transfusion center in the country.
