COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Public Security Minister revealed that a suspect arrested on Saturday (14) for making threats to an International Relations Organization in Colombo, had in-fact referred to an attack on the Indian High Commission in Colombo.
'The suspect (Keerthi Ratnayake) was arrested because he had allegedly used his mobile phone to call the 03rd Secretary of the Indian High Commission, a 'Ms. Subramanium' and informed her of an imminent attack on the diplomatic mission by a certain group,' Minister Rear Admiral (Retd) Dr. Sarath Weerasekara told News 1st.
The Minister said if the suspect, who is an Ex-Officer of the Sri Lanka Air Force, had credible information on such an attack, he should have immediately revealed the details to Sri Lanka Police.
'This is an issue with respect to National Security. Therefore, he was arrested,' said the Minister.
The suspect will be interrogated for several days to determine his involvement in this claim, he added.
Sri Lankan intelligence sources have not uncovered details of an attack on the Indian High Commission in Colombo, said the Minister, stressing that the claims will be investigated, especially on how the suspect came into possession of such information.
