COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lankan government has spent Rs. 262 Billion on COVID-19 control measures, it was revealed on Wednesday (30).
Finance Secretary S. R. Attygalle revealed the expenditure on COVID control during a review meeting at Temple Trees chaired by the Prime Minister.
According to Finance Ministry data, the government of Sri Lanka spent Rs. 117 Billion on COVID control in 2020 and Rs. 53 Billion so far in 2021.
Finance Secretary S. R. Attygalle also pointed out that during the same period another Rs. 92 Billion was spent on vaccination and related matters.
The Finance Secretary noted that by reducing interest rates inflation was maintained at a rate between 04% - 06%, however, in May it increased to 06.1% - 06.2% and measures are underway to reduce the rates.
11,000 development projects have been approved by the government via the decentralized fund.
