COLOMBO (News 1st): The island-wide travel restriction will once again be re-imposed starting from 10:00 PM on Wednesday (Jun. 23) until 4:00 AM on Friday (Jun. 25).
"NO public gatherings will be permitted during the travel restriction period," Army Commander General Shavendra Silva, the Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) emphasized.
The Army Commander urged the people to assist the efforts to contain the spread of the virus and stay at home while the travel restriction is in effect.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Police have also urged people to stay at home.
However, those engaged in essential services will be permitted to report for duty on Thursday (Jun. 24), Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said on Wednesday (23).
"Approximately 20,000 police officers will be deployed to monitor the situation adding that special surveillance operations will also be conducted across the country," the Police Spokesperson noted.
