COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Ruling Party, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has called on its Minister of Energy to resign for his decision to increase fuel prices.
'The SLPPs attention was drawn towards pushing the government to a position to increase fuel prices with no alternative, at a time when the people are already facing difficulties,' said the SLPP General Secretary in a statement.
It added that the subject minister had moved the government to a difficult position by not taking the necessary decisions, at a time when it was understood that such a situation would arise.
The SLPP believes the there people should not be burdened any further, given that they are already under pressure due to COVID-19, said the statement.
'The subject minister must take direct responsibility for this situation and be held accountable, and he must resign,' said the statement by Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam, the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
