(VIDEO) 02 Cops arrested for neglecting duties as man dies after he was run over by a bus

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police arrested 04 people including 2 police officers following an incident where a man died after being run over by a bus in Weligama.

Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said a man who attacked the victim and the driver of the bus that ran over the victims moments later, were arrested by the Weligama Police and remanded following the incident which took place on the 17th of May.

However, CCTV footage that surfaced recently revealed a police motorcycle patrol had passed the location.

Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said investigations revealed the two police officers had neglected their duties.

New footage revealed moments before the incident where another man is seen attacking the victim following which he falls to the ground and lies unconscious briefly before a bus runs over his body.

Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that the two policeman were arrested as they did not take actions to prevent a crime or did not help the victim.

They were remanded until the 28th of May by the Matara Magistrate's Court.
