29-year-old arrested for promoting extremism on Zaharan's instructions

COLOMBO (News 1st); A 29-year-old male from Mawanella was arrested by the Terrorist Investigations Division on Thursday (20) for organizing classes to promote extremism in Oluvil and Muttur in December 2018.

Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said the suspect was arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and he had acted on the instructions Zaharan Hashim.

"The suspect will be moved to the TID and a detention order will be obtained to interrogate the suspect," said the Police Spokesperson.

The Terrorist Investigations Division investigated the matter of conducting various classes being conducted to promote extremism, based on the information given by suspects already in police custody.

A total of 07 suspects were arrested so far for the aforementioned offenses and the TID is conducting further investigations.
