COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi accused Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa of sabotaging her efforts to lead the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
"I doubt that the opposition leader is attempting to mess with the time I have allocated to provide leadership to the fight against COVID-19," she told Parliament after the opposition leader raised a series of questions on COVID-19 control.
The Health Minister said such questions obstruct her from carrying out the necessary duties with regard to the pandemic.
Ruling Faction MP S. B. Dissanayake siding with the Minister said there is a tradition in the Sri Lanka Parliament where a Minister can decide NOT to answer a question if he or she is placed in an uncomfortable position by those questions.
On Tuesday (18) Opposition Leader Sajit Premadasa raised a series of questions over the government's efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, and these questions led to aggressive comments from the ruling faction.
