COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police on Thursday (06) launched a pilot project to use drones to monitor and control traffic in the city of Colombo.
Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said the Police Special Task Force with the Sri Lanka Air Force deployed a mobile unit as a control and command center for the project. "These drones will be used to monitor the flow of traffic and those who violate road rules," said the Police Spokesperson adding if traffic congestion is observed via a drone, officers will be able to direct traffic accordingly," he said. The pilot project was tested out along High-Level Road in Colombo and it will be spread to areas such as Parliament Road, Kandy Road, Galle Road, Low-Level Road, and the Negombo Road.
