06 arrested with 1500 Kg of Beedi Leaves worth Rs. 12Mn: Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Special Operation Team of Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested six people in the Negombo coastal area, for the possession of 1500 Kg of Beedi Leaves (Tendu Leaves) smuggled from India, Sri Lanka Police said on Saturday (May 01). Three vehicles were also taken into Police custody. "According to the investigation, it has been revealed that the Beedi Leaves had been smuggled from the coast of South India and transported by sea to the Negombo beach," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Saturday (May 01). The stock of 1500 kg of Beedi Leaves (Tendu Leaves) is worth Rs. 12 million, the Deputy Police Chief noted. Negombo Police and Police STF are conducting further investigations.
