COVID-19: Medical condition of school students to be monitored daily

COLOMBO (News 1st): Steps will be taken to monitor the medical condition of all school students on a daily basis given the prevailing COVID-19 high-risk situation, the Ministry of Education said on Saturday (Apr. 24). All education authorities were informed in this regard through a circular, Prof. Kapila Perera, the Secretary to the Ministry of Education said. Accordingly, steps will be taken to gather information pertaining to the matter, under the purview of an Additional Secretary for School Affairs at the Ministry of Education. Further elaborating on the process of collecting medical data from students, Prof. Kapila Perera said the Health Promotion Committees established in each school, including the principals, parents, and the school community, will collect the information on a daily basis. A mechanism is in place to forward the collected data to the Education Ministry through the Divisional Directors of Education and the Zonal Directors of Education, he further pointed out. The School Health Promotion Committees are empowered to take urgent decisions with regard to the health situation of a school, Education Secretary Prof. Kapila Perera emphasized.
