Roshan makes waves in record-breaking Palk Strait swim

COLOMBO (News1st): Leading Aircraftsman Roshan Abeysundara established an Asian and a Sri Lankan record as he completed his swim across the Palk Strait today. Abeysundara swam from Talaimannar to Dhanushkodi in India, in 10 hours and 31 minutes while setting a Sri Lankan record for this feat. He had swum back to Sri Lanka in 17 hours, 48 minutes, and 43 seconds, setting an Asian record in the process. The distance of the entire swim was 59.3 kilometers. Abeysundara's feat, completed in 28 hours, 19 minutes and 43 seconds surpassed the previous Asian record of 28 hours, 19 minutes and 43 seconds set by Kumar Anandan in 1971. "Having broken the record for this challenge, I wish to encourage people across the world to avoid polluting oceans using polythene and plastics," Abeysundara, a Leading Aircraftsman of the Air Force said. He thanked his family, the Air Force commander, and all officers in the Air Force who helped him achieve his feat.
