Colombo (News 1st);  Every day, people living in the villages of Pilikannahena, Ittagalhena, Thalgastenne, and Kahawinna risk their lives to cross the only bridge linking them with the mainland.

This Wooden Bridge located in the Rotumba (West) Grama Niladhari Division in the Matara District is considered a death trap to many, due to its present state. According to locals, this bridge was not repaired since time immemorial. 'Nobody comes to inspect the bridge, despite informing the authorities to repair it," said one local. Another said that she almost died after falling off the bridge with her child, both of them survived the fall. Around 200 families use this bridge daily to go to the school, hospital, and market. According to the locals, the Divisional Secretary of Pasgoda had visited the location, but there is no sign of repair work taking place anytime soon.
