Protest on farmers, environment issues continue

COLOMBO (News1st): Several protests were staged in the country demanding to resolve issues concerning farmers and the environment. The Satyagraha launched by farmers of Mahiyangana in support of the farmers of Walsapugala entered its 12th day today. Thirty-seven farmers associations are involved in the Satyagraha campaign. Meanwhile, leaders of farmers associations in Walsapugala visited the farmers of Mahiyangana who are involved in the Satyagraha. The Satyagraha launched by farmers of Walsapugala demanding authorities to gazette a managed wild elephant reserve entered its 71st day today. On the other hand, the Satyagraha launched by farmers of Galgamuwa demanding a scientific solution to the human-elephant conflict continued for the 13th day. Today, is day 10 of the Satyagraha launched by farmers of Medawachchiya as well. These farmers, who launched the demonstration in support of the Walsapugala farmers, are demanding a swift solution to the problem.
