Protest against environmental destruction in Colombo

COLOMBO (News1st): A protest is being staged at the Viharamahadevi Park opposing environmental deforestation in the country. A massive mural measuring 70 by 20 feet was set-up against ecocide, but had been taken down by Colombo Municipal Council workers this morning. However, the organizers had said that they had received the approval of the CMC to erect the mural and the officials had then fixed it once again. But the mural was taken down once again following the arrival of the Police Environment Unit. Environmental lawyer Dr. Jagath Gunawardena blamed the authorities for failing to take action against on-going environmental destruction.
