COLOMBO(News 1st): Opposition MPs allege that money laundering had taken place through the sugar scam that cost the government a revenue loss of more than 15 billion rupees.
"The sugar scam is similar to the central bank bond scam”, JVP MP Vijitha Herath said.
“The government said they could not do anything about the money that Aloysius and his group looted in the bond scam. And now, in response to the sugar scam, the government says it took a policy decision, and businessman benefited from it” he added.
Speaking on the issue Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Patali Champika Ranawaka said “Steps must be taken to uncover the truth about this and find out all the factions who benefited from all of these scams”
“Since the project of looting money off the importation of sugar has become a success, they have now moved onto doing the same with coconut oil,” Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said.
