Investigate 05 people mentioned in PCoI report, including 'Sara' ; AG tells IGP

Colombo (News 1st); The Attorney General had written to the Inspector General of Police with regard to investigations that need to be carried out on 05 people mentioned in the 17th Chapter of the final report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry. 

The names

Hindh

, Ahamed 

Thalib

 Lukman 

Thalib

, Abu Abdullah (Lukman 

Thalib

 Ahamed), 

Rimzan

 and Sara Jesmine also known as 

Pulasthini

 Mahendran.

 

This was confirmed to News 1st by State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, the Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General.

 

Attorney General 

Dappula

 De Livera had briefed His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith with respect to the investigations taking place on the 2019 April 21st Attacks at a meeting held on Monday (08).

 

State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne told News 1st that the Attorney General had informed His Eminence on the importance of studying all evidence records of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry.

 

"The Attorney General informed His Eminence on the importance of going through all the evidence records as the final report of the Presidential Commission focused on those who failed to prevent the attacks from taking place and did not specifically mention the details and evidence regarding the masterminds, conspirators as well as those who were, directly and indirectly, involved in the attacks," said the State Counsel.

 

The Attorney General noted that he is determined to bring before the law all those responsible for the 2019 April Attacks, adding a 12-member team was appointed by the Attorney General to study the evidence records provided to the Attorney General's Department.

 De Livera had noted that the investigations by the Criminal Investigations Department must be concluded and all the evidence of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry must be provided to the AG, if indictments are to be filed in the future with regard to the 2019 April 21st Attacks
