COLOMBO (News1st): The government has been chalking up plans to win the votes of minorities at the upcoming election, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has said.
"They (government members) have been asked to identify candidates who can garner the votes of the Muslims and Tamils at the upcoming election," the JVP leader noted.
He claimed that a plan is being made to this effect to put forward Basil Rajapaksa as a candidate.
Dissanayake noted that a group including MP Wimal Weerawansa had met the President, seeking to appoint Mahinda Rajapaksa to lead the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and Gotabaya Rajapaksa to lead the alliance of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
"Will they resolve the crisis by making Mahinda the party leader and Gotabaya, the leader of the alliance?" he queried.
