COLOMBO(News1st): The executive committee of Sri Lanka Cricket headed by its chairman has been summoned before the court of appeal on the 15th of March 2021 over the writ petition filed by civil activist and former cricketers seeking the creation of a new constitution for Sri Lanka cricket before the next SLC election.
The petition file was taken up for consideration today before President of the court of appeal justice Arjuna Obeysekara and Justice Mayadunne Corea.
The petition was filed by 12 people Former Cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan, Sidath Wettimuny, Retired Judge Saleem Marsoof, Dr. Palitha Kohona, Ryenzie Wijethilaka and Kushil Gunasekara
They claim that the cricket administration of the country is severely impacted by political and other external factors under the existing constitution, the petitioners add that the situation should be changed before the next SLC election
They seek the intervention of the court of appeal to issue orders to the respondents to take the relevant steps in this regard.
Minister of Sports Namal Rajapaksa, Chairman of SLC Shammi Silva, Deputy Chairman Ravin Wickramaratne, Jayantha Dharmadasa, Thilak Wattuhewa and Secretary Mohan De Silva have been named as respondents.
Under the advice of the Sudath Perera Associate law firm, Presidents counsel Attorney-at-law Sanjeeva Jayarathna and Professor Milhan Mohamed appeared for the petitioners.
