Police warn of online fraud in line with Valentine's Day

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police on Thursday (Feb. 11) warned on the possibility of fraudulent acts being committed in line with Valentine's Day. Acts of fraud could be committed targeting messaging applications and social media platforms online, with regard to online payments for receiving gifts, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Thursday (Feb. 11). "You might receive a text message or a message via social media regarding a gift sent by your fiancé, and you might be instructed to deposit money to collect the gift. This could be a fraud. Therefore, do not deposit money according to texts or social media messages," the Deputy Police Chief advised.
