COLOMBO (News1st): An opposition parliamentarian has raised concerns on the authenticity of figures relating to the COVID-19 situation in the country. "Nearly 800 people test positive for the virus daily," Hesha Withanage, a Samagi Jana Balawegaya parliamentarian said. "If 800 people are diagnosed for 14 days, that makes up 11,200. But we are only told about approximately 5,000 patients". But state minister of COVID disease control Dr. Sudarashini Fernandopulle insisted that the authorities have no need to conceal the figures. "We have not concealed the truth. I make this remark with responsibility," Fernandopulle noted.
