Colombo (News 1st); Interrogation of the wife of a notorious drug smuggler led authorities to a canoe used to move drugs illegally into the country from Indian.
The canoe was located at the pier of the Pitipana Fisheries Village in Negombo and when the police reached the location is was already set on fire and destroyed. Sri Lanka Police arrested the wife of a notorious Sri Lankan drug lord known as 'Shiva' from Jaya Mawatha in Thalahena on Wednesday (03). 'Shiva', real name Nandakumar Shivanandan is wanted for smuggling drugs to Sri Lanka via the sea route and was believed to have fled to India to evade arrest. Sri Lanka Police said the female suspect is Shiva's second wife and after he fled to India, the suspect had actively assisted in his drug smuggling operations. Investigations revealed, Shiva is the local operator of an international drug smuggling operation of 'Ruban' who smuggles drugs from France, and 'Kudu Lala' who smuggles drugs from Italy. Sri Lanka Police said Shiva uses the sea route to smuggle drugs into Sri Lanka. The female suspect is currently being held on a 07-day detention order obtained by the court.
