Madampe resident launch fast unto death

Residents of Madampe launched a protest against alleged sand miners who they say, are "destroying the environment." Residents of Madampe began their fast demanding for solutions to illegal sand mining on the 23rd of this month. They launched the protest after engaging in the fast for 3 days. Residents of 10 villages including Madampe, Suduwella, Mugunuwatana, Henapola and Pothuwil are staging the protest and even held a religious ceremony seeking divine intervention to resolve the issue last night. Today, representatives of the Wayamba Handa environmental organization pledged their support to the fast launched by the area residents. With no solution in sight, the farmers decided to launch a fast unto death.
