Colombo (News 1st); The Ministry of Environment appointed a committee of experts to conduct a comprehensive study into the gold, copper, and iron ore deposits in Seruwawila.
This committee will be chaired by an Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and will also include Professor Athula Senaratne from the University of Peradeniya, Professor H. W. Nawaratne, Dr. Stanley Fernando, Dr. Bernard Perera, Dr. C. H. K. Siriwardena, and Dr. O. K. Dissanayake. A survey conducted in 1970 at Seruwawila had revealed that there were gold, iron ore, and copper in small quantities and the new study will gather more details about the deposits.
