CABINET APPROVES TO DRAFT SIGN LANGUAGE BILL

Colombo (News 1st); The Cabinet of Ministers granted approval for necessary provisions to be made by an act of parliament to make Sign Language a recognized means of communication and to advise the legal draftsman to draft the relevant bill.

According to a statement from the Government Information Department, in 2010 the Cabinet of Ministers approved to accept Sign Language as a recognized language, which was considered a significant move for the hearing impaired community in Sri Lanka.
