Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police will institute legal actions any person who interferes with on-going investigations.
Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said several police stations had received phone calls from various individuals claiming to be relatives or associates of the Inspector General Police and had demanded the OICs to conduct investigations in favor of certain parties.
Upon receiving such information, the Inspector General of Police issued a special circular to all Officers-in-Charge and Superior Officers to take legal action against individuals who interfere with police investigations.
Police officers are instructed to conduct the investigations in an impartial manner, said the Police Spokesperson.
According to the circular issued in early January, if a Police Officer or Detective receives such a phone call, he or she must immediately contact one of the three senior police officers tasked with dealing with such phone calls.
