COVID-19 VARIANT DETECTED IN SRI LANKA

Colombo (News 1st); A COVID-19 patient infected with a variant was detected in Sri Lanka, said the Department of Immunology & Molecular Medicine at the University of Sri Jayawardenapura on Wednesday (13).
Chandima Jeewandara, the Director of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine said a sample received by his department was subject to tests and it was proven it contained the COVID-19 variant.
However, he said he cannot comment on the identity of the person in question.
12 new sample kits were received by the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine for testing he said.
