COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police have launched a special operation jointly with the health authorities in the Western province and surrounding areas starting from Monday (Jan. 11), police said.
The operation will focus on ensuring that provisions of the gazette issued on 15th October 2020 are implemented at institutions, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said on Monday (Jan. 11).
"In terms of the provisions of the gazette notification that was published on the 15th of November 2020 certain guidelines and health regulations have been promulgated in respect of the institutions; especially, there are certain guidelines that should be fulfilled by the owners or the administrators of the institutions," the Deputy Police Chief pointed out.
According to the gazette notification, the institutions must prepare a place to wash hands, a mechanism should be created to monitor the body temperature at the entrance, a list of people who enter and exit the premises should be maintained, and social distancing should be maintained inside the premises, among other regulations.
Both public and private institutions, factories, supermarkets, and all other places where services are provided to customers, are required to implement the said guidelines.
"Legal action will be instituted against institutions that fail to adhere with COVID-19 regulations as per the respective gazette notification," the Deputy Police Chief further noted.
