COLOMBO (News 1st): COVID-19 tests will be carried out at all 11 exit points of the Western Province as well as exit points of expressways starting from Wednesday (Dec. 23), Sri Lanka Police said on Tuesday (Dec. 22).
The aim of this initiative is to identify COVID-19 infected individuals, direct them for treatment, and prevent the formation of sub-clusters, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told reporters on Tuesday (Dec. 22) at the daily police press briefing.
"While the Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda clusters were gradually brought under control, several sub-clusters were created in the Central hills and surrounding areas, with the movement of people from Colombo in line with the Deepavali festival," the Deputy Police Chief said.
Therefore, in order to prevent the formation of sub-clusters in line with the festive season, COVID-19 tests will be carried out at 11 exit points including the bi-roads of the Western Province and exit points of expressways.
Initially, tests were only carried out at four exit points of the Western province as part of efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 outside the region.
