CHILD TRAFFICKER ARRESTED IN MATALE

COLOMBO (News 1st): A suspect involved in child trafficking, who is revealed to have sold 30 newborn babies, was arrested in Matale, Sri Lanka Police said on Tuesday (Dec. 22). "Following further investigations conducted by a team at the Child & Women Bureau of Sri Lanka Police, 12 pregnant mothers in connection with the incident were located; where the babies born to five mothers had already been sold to a 3rd party," Police Spokesperson, DIG Ajith Rohana told reporters on Tuesday (Dec. 22) at the daily police press briefing.  According to Police, the authorities found three babies along with the 12 pregnant mothers at the location where the suspect was holding them under his protection. Investigations were conducted after obtaining a court order and the suspect was arrested in Matale last night (Dec. 21). "Although the suspect had conducted the child trafficking racket from Moratuwa, he is a resident of Ukuwela, Matale," the Deputy Police Chief said.
