COLOMBO (News 1st): The postmortem examination into the death of the trainee pilot aboard the Sri Lanka Air Force PT-6 Trainer Aircraft that crashed on Tuesday (Dec. 15), will be conducted today (Dec. 16), Sri Lanka Air Force said.
The postmortem examination will be conducted at the Trincomalee District Hospital, Group Captain Dushan Wijesinghe, the SLAF Spokesperson said on Wednesday (Dec. 16).
According to Group Captain Dushan Wijesinghe, the Board of Investigation appointed on the instructions of the Commander of the Air Force – Air Marshal Sudharshana Pathirana, to probe the SLAF PT-6 Trainer Aircraft crash, commenced its investigations on Tuesday (Dec. 15).
Sri Lanka Air Force PT-6 Trainer Aircraft with one pilot that left Air Force Academy China Bay in Trincomalee on a solo training mission, crashed near Janranjana Tank in the Sooriyapura area in Kantale on Tuesday afternoon (16), approximately 14 nautical miles away from Air Force Academy China Bay.
Officer Cadet Shalinda Amarakoon, the trainee pilot aboard the SLAF PT-6 Trainer Aircraft passed away in the crash.
The Late Officer Cadet Amarakoon who joined the Sri Lanka Air Force in January 2019, was a past pupil of Kegalle Maha Vidyalaya.
