Colombo (News 1st); The Church of Ceylon states that there are serious human rights concerns happening in the country at the moment.
Issuing a statement in light of the World Human Rights Day, the church of Ceylon has raised their concerns over the unaccepted detainment of Attorney at law, Hejaaz Hizbullah, and the former director CID Shani Abeysekara.
In this statement, they have stated that Hejaaz Hisbullah being a leading young lawyer, is detained by the authorities without charges or trial and is kept under improper judicial supervision.
The statement also raises concerns over the health situation of the former CID Director Shani Abeysekara, who is infected with COVID - 19 and suffered a recent heart attack.
The letter further urges the authorities to address these concerns as a matter of urgency.
The letter welcomes all Sri Lankans to set aside all differences and join hands to acknowledge these shortcomings and to make a united commitment to stand up for human rights in the future.
