Mahendran Extradition : Singapore AG sought clarification, Justice Minister

Colombo (News 1st); The Government will not rest until the last person responsible for the Central Bank Treasury Bond Scam in brought before the Court, said Justice Minister Ali Sabry in Parliament on Wednesday (09).

He told the house, the Attorney General had prepared a document and submitted to the Justice Minister on the background of the matter, instructions given to the Criminal Investigations Department, and the proceedings at the Fort Magistrate's Court relating to the Treasury Bond Auction of 2015.

Further, the report comprises details of the indictment filed with the Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar, the present position, the writ application filed by Ajahn Punchihewa challenging the indictment filed against him, and the extradition request against Arjuna Mahendran as well as it present position.

The Attorney General's report also includes the investigation relating to the proceedings at the Colombo Fort Magistrate relating to the Treasury Bond Auctions of 2016 (29th March 2016 & 31st March 2016), proceedings in the Magistrate's Court of Colombo against Ravi Karunanayake for committing perjury at the Commission and the proceeding at the Fort Magistrate's Court against PTL, AA, KP and other employees at PTL for the destruction of evidence.

The Justice Minister said the comprehensive report also includes the indictment filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

Further, the Justice Minister said the Singapore Attorney General has sought certain clarification from the Attorney General's Department regarding the offense which falls within the first schedule of the extradition treaty between Sri Lanka and Singapore.

The Attorney General will continue to make a representation, said the Justice Minister.
