Command and Control Center opened at BIA to manage emergencies

Colombo (News 1st);  An Incident Command and Control Operations Centre, which is a vital nerve center, at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) was declared open on Monday, the 30th of November 2020.

This center will elevate the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to higher international standards in compliance with the international regulatory bodies such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The Incident Command and Control Center will meet and manage security-related contingencies and emergencies such as Attempted Hijack, Hijack, Bomb threats, and Sabotage, etc., effectively.

Further, parallel to the introduction of a new technology enhancement program, the Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) technology was also introduced.

ETDs are the systems capable of uniquely detecting and identifying explosives.

In addition to that, new baggage screening X-rays and Dual-Energy X-ray systems were introduced and installed to expedite and reduce the passenger processing time.

Maj. Gen. (Ret) G A Chandrasiri, the Chairman AASL stated that

Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL) would introduce the latest accepted and recognized technology worldwide for security screening, Explosive Detection Systems using sophisticated CT technologies, integrated image resolution, and maximizing the energy resolution to the BIA new terminal which is due to be opened in 04 years.
