Colombo (News 1st); DIG Ajith Rohana on Tuesday (01) said he will step down from the five-member committee appointed by the Justice Minister to investigate the Mahara Prison Riot.
The committee is chaired by retired High Court Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena and includes Chief Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Justice U R De Silva, Justice Ministry Additional Secretary Rohana Hapugaswatte, and former Prisons Commissioner Gamini Jayasinghe, in addition to the Deputy Police Chief.
DIG Ajith Rohana said as he is the spokesperson for Sri Lanka Police and makes comments to the media on the Mahara Prison Riot, it would be a conflict of interest for him to be a part of the committee.
Ajith Rohana said he informed the Justice Minister in writing about his decision to step down from the committee.
